Refurbishment and extension of a house in West Putney
The Coach House project involved the rebuilding of an existing coach house building facing on to the street at the front of the site as a small lodge building and the construction of a new six bedroomed house behind this in an old walled garden area as the principal property on the site. The new building has been designed to provide simple but generous open plan living spaces with sliding glazed doors that open up onto the newly planted garden area. A particular feature is the open floating corner that can be created by opening the doors in the family room area, a feature that can also be created in the master bedroom on the first floor above. Built as a well-insulated construction with a concrete frame to provide thermal mass the house is designed to consume the minimum of energy. Rainwater is collected and recycled and power is provided by an array of PV panels mounted on the main flat roof area. Lower roof areas have a Sedum roof covering that will even out water run-off from the roof area and soften the outline of the building.
